Fantasy Player Of The Week: Alex Ovechkin

For a lot of fans, especially those who play Fantasy Hockey, Alex Ovechkin is a complex player. He has the ability to rack up at least 100 points every single season, and yet he has topped 100 points in a season since 2009. But, if last season would have been a full season he would have 100 easily. With that being said I had my reservations about Ovechkin being able to repeat what he did last season.

So far so good Ovechkin has been playing like the NHL’s best player, through a grand total of three games.

Take that doubters.

I don’t know if he will have an MVP caliber season but so far Ovechkin has 4 goals, 2 assists 4 PIM, 5 power play points, and 24 shots. If he keeps this pace up he will have a fantasy season for the ages. The next closest player (non-goalie for comparable stats) is Mikhail Grabovski who certainly is getting stats playing along Ovechkin. Grabovski so far has 3 goals, 2 assists, 4 power play points, and 7 shots. It’s a good start as well, and is a great fantasy pick up for anyone who is looking for a center (if he’s still available) but you can clearly see that Ovechkin deserves the honor this week.

So to all you people who drafted Alex Ovechkin, good job for the first three games.

To all of you who refused to draft him because you thought his better days were behind, shame on you for doubting him through three games.
